Vodka, Lemon & Turmeric Cooler

When the temperatures are steadily rising outside, it’s important to stay hydrated. Maybe hydrating with vodka isn’t the most ideal answer but hey, when life gives you lemons, mix with vodka, right?

It is so hot outside. I don’t know how anyone can enjoy spending time outside unless they are near some sort of body of water. This past week we’ve been relaxing at my parent’s home in Louisiana and soaking up all the sun poolside. Even though we were fortunate enough to be near a pool, we still needed a fan to constantly blow a cold mist on us. It’s THAT hot.

In order to beat the heat, a refreshing cocktail can be the perfect way to cool down. Luckily, this cocktail has a very special ingredient in it: turmeric.

Turmeric has so many health benefits so I feel as if I’m doing something good for my body by drinking this vodka refresher. If you aren’t familiar with turmeric, it is the important ingredient and medicinal herb which has been used in India for thousands of years. It is the main ingredient in many curries along with cumin, coriander and fenugreek. Turmeric is best known for giving curries its bright, yellow color. I highly recommend incorporating turmeric into your diet if you do not already. Here are 5 main reasons why:

  1. Powerful anti-inflammatory effects which helps prevent & battle against arthritis
  2. Powerful antioxidants which help protect our bodies from free radicals
  3. Helps prevent cancer
  4. Helps treat depression
  5. Helps prevent brain diseases such as alzheimer’s.
