Cacao, Banana & Date Smoothie

Smoothies are a quick and easy way to consume a healthy breakfast.  Many times, we are so busy in the morning that there isn’t much time to prepare, let alone think about, a well-balanced breakfast; however, with the tool of a blender, you can whiz up the fastest, most satisfying breakfast smoothie.  I love this recipe because it tastes like heaven.  This will have you ready for the day.

Even if you already have a strong breakfast game, this smoothie makes for a great way to cure a greedy sweet tooth in the afternoon.  The combination of cacao, banana, dates, and almond milk makes for the ultimate sweet, creamy, velvety drink.  This recipe amazes me because it’s so hard to believe that all of the ingredients are natural and good for you. I just love medjool dates because they are so sweet, sticky and gooey.  I had the majority of these ingredients stocked in my kitchen because they can be used in so many different recipes.  I would recommend always having almond milk, medjool dates, cacao, chia seeds, and honey on hand.  Natural, sweet ingredients are so much better for you than refined sugar and processed sweets.  Once you make the healthy switch, it’ll be hard to go back. I’m not saying I never eat a chocolate chip cookie or piece of cake- I’m in culinary school and we devour all kinds of things- but at home, I try my best to eat what is natural, pure and best for my body.






For this recipe you will need:

2 tsp cacao

1 small ripe banana

4 medjool dates, pitted

1 cup almond milk

1 tsp honey

1 tsp almond butter

1 Tbsp chia seeds

1/2 cup ice cubes

Peel the banana and pit the dates.  Then, add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.  Pour, sip, enjoy!
