As you know, today marks the 13th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001.  Reminiscing on that day still makes me feel almost in shock that that happened to our country.  No matter how many years go by, it is still devastating and still affects so many people to this day.

I remember 9-11-01 very clearly, as I’m sure you do too. It is a day that will always live in our hearts.  I was in the 5th grade, specifically in my French class, when the first tower was hit.  My teacher turned on the TV and I remember everyone be very confused as to what was going on.  I didn’t really understand until I got home from school that day and my parents explained everything to me.

Since that day, the United States has been at war with terrorists and if you saw last night, President Obama announced an air-strike strategy to fight against the extremist terrorist group, ISIS.  I hate to get political, but can you imagine the pressure and stress that former President George W. Bush was feeling the days after 9-11? Every morning for the past two weeks when I turn on the news, it has been something about ISIS and their threats against our country.  It is a definitely a scary and unstable world we live in.  I can’t even wrap my brain around the fact that there are evil people in this world who wake up each and every day to think about hurting other people, specifically targeting us Americans.

I think every year on 9-11, we are all a bit on edge because of the shocking and horrific events that happened that day.  We pray and hope that this country will never experience anything like that again.  So many people lost family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones on that infamous day.  It’s crazy to me because we grow up learning in school about wars in the past and attacks such as Pearl Harbor, never thinking that we would go through something so similar.

Let’s all take a moment of silence on this day to remember everyone who lost their lives 13 years ago today, and the people who lost their dear ones.  Remember that you should never take any day for granted and always tell the people who mean the most to you, how much you love them.  Be proud to be American! God Bless.
